This is an RGWOOD 2MT 3/4″ Tailstock Spur Live Center. This live center is easy to install and will fit right into a 2MT tailstock spindle. Featuring a multipoing surface and spring loaded pin, this live center offers strong workholding, and won’t split your wood.  This shape also provides a larger contact area with the workpiece, enhancing grip while accommodating slight variations in size and shape.

What is a live centre?

A tailstock live center is a rotating support tool used with a wood lathe, specifically attached to the tailstock, which is the non-driving end of the lathe. The live center helps balance and stabilize the workpiece while it rotates.

Key steps to using a live centre:

Select the right size: Choose a live center with the correct Morse Taper to fit your lathe’s tailstock spindle. For example, choose a 1MT live centre to fit a 1MT lathe, or a 2MT live centre to fit a 2MT lathe.

Clean the taper: It’s always a good idea to give the live centre and the tailstock spindle a quick clean before installing, to remove debris for a more secure fit.

Install the live center: insert the tapered shank of the live center directly into the 2MT taper in the tailstock spindle, ensuring it is fully seated and secure.

Center the workpiece: Make sure the live center is aligned with the headstock center. You can check visually or with an alignment tool.

Tighten the tailstock: Carefully slide the tailstock live center into contact with the center of the loose end of your project, applying gentle pressure to secure the workpiece.

Start turning: Once the workpiece is securely held, begin turning on the lathe at a suitable speed.
